Uto Castle
Where Yukinaga Konishi, the commander that lost the Battle of Sekigahara, resided.
[Explanation]
Uto Castle existed in Uto city in Kumamoto prefecture. It is a flatland-mountain castle that was built by Yukinaga Konishi on the east side of Uto Old Castle, and a triple castle tower was built with it. However, Yukinaga Konishi lost the battle of Sekigahara, and Kiyomasa Kato, whose territory was the northern part of Higo (Kumamoto) and succeeded to capture Uto Castle, got together and became the viceroy of Higo.
Kiyomasa made Uto Castle his hiding castle, but when he died in 1611, it was demolished along with Minomata Castle and Yabe Castle due to Ikkoku Ichijo (One castle for one feudal domain).
The ruins of Uto Castle is registered as Japan’s historical site, and it now is the historical park called the historical site Uto Caslte ruins, and there still remain parts of the ruins of the castle and constructions, moat, and the gate.
