It was lived in by the Fukaya Uesugi family until the Hojo conquest of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
[Description]
Fukaya Castle was a castle on the plain in Motosumi Town, Fukaya City, Saitama Prefecture.
It was built by Uesugi Fusaaki of the Fukaya Uesugi family.
In the middle of the Warring States period, the Hojo family gradually invaded Musashi province. In the first year of the Tensho period, Uesugi Norimori became relative by marriage with the Hojo family because he couldn’t resist Hojo Ujimasa.
In the 18th year of the Tensho period (A.D.1590), the Fukaya Uesugi family fought for the Hojo family during the Odawara conquest of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The family was besieged in the castle but resigned and get extinct. After the Hojo family gave in, their estate was succeeded by Tokugawa Ieyasu. His man Matsudaira Yasunao got in charge of the castle with 10000 kokus of an estate.
Later on, Ieyasu’s 7th son and 6th son, Matsuchiyo and Matsudaira Tadateru worked as heads of the castle. In the 15th year of the Keicho period (A.D.1610), Matsudaira Tadashige of the Sakurai Matsudaira family got in charge of the castle. In the 8th year of the Gen’na period, the Matsudaira family moved to Sanuki in Kazusa Province and alternately Sakai Tadakatsu arrived with 10000 kokus of feudal estate.
In the 4th year of the Kan’ei period, the Sakai family moved to Kawagoe Domain in Musashi province and Fukaya domain was abolished. The castle was destroyed in the 11th year of the Kan’eiperiod. Now, the ruin is used as a castle ruin park, there few traces except the moat and the stone wall.
