Kitsuregawa Castle
The castle had been owned by the Shionoya family. After the Houjou family was conquested, the Shionoya family was deprived of their feudal estate and the estate became to be owned by the Ashikaga (Kitsuregawa) family.

Kitsuregawa Castle is a mountain castle which used to stand in Kitsuregawa, Sakura city, Tochigi Prefecture
It was said to be built by Shionoya Goro Korehiro at the end of the Heian period.
In the Warring States period, the Shionoya family break away and come to a settlement with the Utsunomiya family, their relatives, repeatedly. In the 18th year of the Tensho period (A.D. 1590), Toyotomi Hideyoshi sent troops to conquest the Houjou family and the Shionoya family was late to join the army. Hideyoshi got angry and deprived of the feudal estate of the Shionoya family.
Hideyoshi gained the mastery over the Kanto area and gave the Kitsuregawa, which was 3500 kokus area, to ASHIKAGA Kunitomo. The noble Ashikaga family had been separated to Koga-Kubo and Oyumi-Kubo and about to extinct. Hideyoshi wanted to prevent it, so he helped Kunitomo, the son of Yorizumi of the Oyumi-Kubo family.
However, Kuniyori suddenly died while Hideyoshi was dispatching troops to Korea. Then, Yoriuji became the head of the Ashikaga family. Since then, Yoriuji used Kitsuregawa as his family name. The Kitsuregawa family distinguished themselves in the Battle of Sekigahara and gained 1000 kokus of feudal estate.
The Warring States period ended and the Edo period started. Then Yoriuji ed his castle town, built his residence on the foot of the mountain and set it as a domain office of Kitsuregawa domain. After that, the Kitsuregawa family had been ruling the Kitsuregawa domain until the Meiji Restoration.
Now, the ruin of the Kitsuregawa Castle is arranged as Omaruyama Park and is the place for the local people to be relaxed.
