[Explanation]
Tanaka castle is the Hirajiro Castle in Shizuoka Prefecture Fujieda city.
The time of the castle was built by Imagawa in 6th year of Tenmon (1537). Eiroku 13 years (1570) Takeda Katsuyori invaded Suruga country and Tanaka castle was open. Since then, it was regarded as important as a castle for the Tokugawa family of Mikawa and Toutoumi.

Tenshou 10th year (1582), the Takeda family was destroyed by the Oda family’s conquest of Koshu, Tanaka castle was attacked by Tokugawa forces at this time and castle was open. In the same year, when Nobunaga Oda was killed by his vassal Akechi Mitsuhide in Honnouji Temple, Kousuke Tokugawa invaded Kai, Shinano, and became a defense of five countries including Suruga, Toutoumi and Mikawa.
When Toyotomi Hideyoshi succeeded Oda Nobunaga, it issued an army of conquering Hojo of Kanto in Tenshou 18th year (1590). Hojo was destroyed by this battle, and its remains was given to “Ieyasu Tokugawa.” Following Ieyasu’s personal favor to the Kanto, Suruga, Toutoumi and Mikawa were appointed veterans of Hideyoshi as castle owners.

Tanaka castle will be the castle under the jurisdiction of Sunpu castle owner “Nakamura Kazutada”. In Keichou 6th year (1601), “Sakai Tadatoshi” was appointed Tanaka lord and improved the castle town. When Ieyasu handed over the ruins to Hidetada and retired to Sunpu, “Sakai Tadatoshi” was transferred to the Kawagoe clan and the Tanaka clan became a castle dominated by Ieyasu.
Kanei 10th year (1633), the castle owner changed one after another, after Matsudaira, Mizuno and Hojo were sealed, Kyoto 15th year (1730) Masanori Honda entered with 40,000 Jewels and the Meiji Restoration came.

After the Meiji Restoration, when the Tokugawa family is transferred from Edo to Sunpu, Honda is transferred to the Awa Nagaho Clan. Tanaka castle became the controlling area of the Shizuoka clan (Tokugawa family) and “Takahashi deishuu” gave the castle. After that, Tanaka castle became abandoned by the Waste Castle Ordinance.
