Inawashiro Castle is called Hirayama Castle in Inawashiro block, Yama county, Fukushima Prefecture, also known as “Kamega castle”.
Sahara, Sagami nationals who had a merit in attacking Mr. Fujiwara in Oshu at the beginning of the Kamakura period, is said to have built a castle given Inawashiro area.
After that, descendants generically called Mr. Inawashiro. In the warring States era, Mr. Inawashiro who followed Mr. Ashins in Aizu, but decided to follow “Date Masamune” which is increasing momentum “Inawashiro Morikuni” gave great results in the battle of Hitotori Bridge. In this battle, Asahina Yoshihiro retired to Mr. Satake.
With this, Masamune became a great name with extensive territories including Aizu territory. However, at this time, in the middle, “Toyotomi Hideyoshi” was issued a cease-of-war legal order, Hideyoshi who dropped Mr. Hojo of Kanto took the Oshu settlement and confiscated Aizu area from Masamune.
By this the Date family finished Aizu rule, Mr. Inawashiro also became the keeper of the Date family and followed it. Since then, Mr. Inawashiro has left his family name as his housekeeper for generations. Meanwhile, Inawashiro Castle has survived without being demolished as Aizu castle owner changes one after another, and when “Hoshina Masayuki” became the Aizu lord in Kanaga 20 (1643), it castel keeper started to change.
In the Boshin War of Keio 4 (1868), when the new government forces (such as the Satsuma clan and the Choshu clan) broke the Aizu clan and “Shinsengumi” and invade the Aizu area, Castle “Takahashi Ooio” burned castle and withdrew to Aizuwakamatsu castle. All the buildings disappeared in this battle, and the role as castle of Inawashiro castle ended here.
There are no buildings remaining at the current Inawashiro castle ruins, but remnants such as Stonewalls, moat and the base are left.
