Minato Castle is a flatland castle in Akita city, Akita Prefecture.
The time of the castle is unknown, but it is said that there is Ando clan in the lower part of province. Ando Kanosue ruled that part and called it Minato city.
Meanwhile, “Ando Morisue” of Tosa Minato lost the war with Minami and escaped to Ezo. “Morisue” who succeeded the “Ando Masasue” was indigenous to Hiyama (Noshiro city, Akita prefecture) in response to invitation from Mr. Ando and Andoyama.
There was a battle between Minato Ando and Hiyama Ando from Tenmon 13th (1544) to Tensho 15th (1587), but finally, Hiyama Ando ‘s “Ando Sansue” integrated the two Ando family, left Hiyama castle and moved to Minato Castle.
Keicho 4 (1599), Ando Sansue made a major renovation of the Minato Castle and made the formation of the castle town and the castle robust. Minato Castle was completed in Keio sixth year (1601) and it was a flatland castle consisting of double moat. Also from this time he will referred as Akita.
However, in the seventeenth year (1602) the year after the completion of the castle, the actual Sansue was transferred to Hitachi Shishido Castle, instead Hitachi “Satake Yoshinobu” entered Minato Castle. Ando’s position is about 50,000 stones and Satake was over 200,000 stones, so it will be a tie in Minato Castle, and Yoshinobu decides to build the main castle to Kubota.
When Yoshinobu transferred to Kubota castle Minato Castle became abandoned and it was destroyed. Currently, there is Tsuchizaki Shinmei company on the former site of Minato Castle, and there are not much remnants left.
