[Description]
Iwabitsu Castle is a mountain castle in East Agatsuma Town, Agatsuma county, Gumma Prefecture.
It is said that the castle and the time of the castle construction are unclear but in the Kamakura period it was built by “Azuma Tarouke Ryo”.
When entering the Nanboku era, the main character ‘Azuma Yukimori’ was killed in the attacks of the Southern Dynasty, and child ‘Oumaru Sen’ retreated to Saito Kozue and received Yamanouchi Uesugi ‘s bias and received “Saito Noriyuki”.
Saito continued to ruler until the Sengoku era when the Noriyuki who recovered Iwase castle again established the control of this place. When the castle owner “Norihiro Saito” was expanding its power while belonging to Uesugi, but then Happa arrived intervening in the territorial dispute between the county ‘s clans “Huo” and “Kanbara”.
Meanwhile, Kanbara is linked with Takeda’s vice-minister Sanada, and Takeda Shingen will intervene in this dispute. And, Yukitaka Sanada, ordered Shingen to capture this region, began to capture the castle of Hao of Azuma county. In Eiroku 6th year (1563), Iwasaki Castle of “Saito Norihiro” also dropped out by the Kashin’s indication and Saito’s power was destroyed here.
Since then, Sanada became the base of Agatsuma county until Sanada took over Numata Castle, and Numata Castle became Sanada’s residence, Iwasaki castle became his castle. Tenshin 10 years (1582), when Oda Nobunaga “Conquest of Koshu” began, against Katsuyori Takeda who left Shinpu Castle, Masayuki Sanada advises to come to Iwabitsu Castle but refuses victory and headed to Iwadono Castle of Nobushige Oyamada.
When Toyotomi Hideyoshi governs the world, the Sanada family survived as the lord of Hideyoshi Shimizu. Even if the world is in the era of Tokugawa, Masayuki’s eldest son “Nobuyuki” survived the Sanada family clan and the Matsushiro clan.
In addition, at the present Iwasaki Castle ruins there are traces of foundations, moat, and outer circle.
