Shimoda Castle is where Shimizu Yasuhide capitulated for a month when Toyotomi Hideyoshi attacked on Northern line.

Shimoda castle is flatland-mountain castle which was in Shimoda city, Shizuoka prefecture.
Located at the entrance of Shimoda Port, the entire cape was functioning as a castle.
The period of the castle is unknown but during the warring States era, the vassal “Asahina Magotarou” of “Hojo Ujiyasu” was appointed as a castle owner. Toyotomi Hideyoshi decides to attack Northern lines in Kanto, Shimoda Castle lord strengthen the guard by Izu’s “Shimizu Yasuhide” using unification of the people.
When the Toyotomi Hideyoshi advanced troops to the Kanto in Tensho 18th Era (1590), the Toyotomi Navy of “Kato Yoshiaki” and “Wakizaka Yasuharu” surrounded Shimoda Castle from the sea. Yasuhide supported about 600 castle soldiers and about a month in the castle, but finally surrendered, took off and retreated to Odawara.
When the Northern line conquest was over, the Kanto was given to Ieyasu Tokugawa, and to Shimoda castle owner Tokugawa Ieyasu ‘s “Toda Tadatsugu” took office at 5 thousand jewels. However, when Keicho 6th Era (1601) second generation “Takatsugu” was transferred to Mikawa’s Towara Castle, Shimoda became a direct jurisdiction of the Tokugawa family.
