Hazuike castle
the residence of Nabeshima Naoshige.
[Description]
Hazuike Castle is a flatland castle located in Oaza Hasuike, Hazuike Town, Saga City, Saga Province. It is considered that the castle was built by [Oda Naomitsu].
When entering Sengoku Era, Naomitsu expanded his influence in Hizen Country and he was attacked by [Ryuzoji Takanobu] and surrendered. After that, Takanobu’s vassal [Goto Ienobu] and [Ryuzoji Ieharu] became the castle owner.
Tensho 12 year (1584), when Ryuzoji Takanobu died at [the Battle of Okitanawate], the second son of Takanobu [Egami Ietane] entered the castle, but he died at [the Battle of Bunroku (Toyotomi Hideyoshi attacked Korea)]. After that, it became the residence of [Nabeshima Naoshige].
While Mr. Ryuzoji was declining, Naoshige who officially being recognized by Saga Clan moved his main base to Saga Castle, [Ishii Masakuni] was appointed as the castle officer of Hazuike Castle. After that, Mr. Ishii ruled this place for 4 generations but the castle was abandoned in Ganwa 1 year (1615) by the order of One Country One Castle.
After that, [Naozumi], the third son of [Nabeshima Naoshige] was the first Saga Clan master. Kanei 16 year (1639), he designed Hazuike Clan and Jinya. After that, it was the clan of Mr. Nabeshima until Meiji Restoration.
Nowadays, [Hazuike Park] is built on the current castle ruins. Moats, and small stones are still left.
