Naegi castle
Toyama Tomomasa defeated Kawajiri Hidenaga of the West Army and conquered the castle during the Battle of Sekigahara.
[Description]
Naegi Castle is a mountain castle located in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Province.
It is said that the castle was built by Mr. Toyama during Genko Period.
After that, [Touyama Naokado] had undergone full-scale renovation and the foundation of Naegi Castle was made. When entering Sengoku Era, a conflict between Oda Nobunaga, Takeda Shingen, Katsuyoshi going aroung Iwamura Castle and Naegi Castle.
Iwamura Castle, Naegi Castle, Akechi Castle, Mr. Touyama always followed Mr. Oda, but Genki 3 year (1572), when Takeda’s vassal [Akiyama Torashige (Nobutomo)] went west and Iwamura Castle fell down, this area was under the control. As a result, Naegi Castle located at the forefront of Oda direction. In addition, Mr. Touyama also divided.
Tensho 3 year (1575), [Oda Nobutada] attacked Iwamura Castle, and some castles in Touno were recaptured. The next year, Tensho 11 year (1583), [Mori Nagayoshi] attacked Naegi Castle and the castle fell down. The castle owner Touyama Tomotada, Touyama Tomomasa depended on Tokugawa Ieyasu and escaped to Hamamatsu Castle.
After that, Naegi Castle belonged to Mr. Mori but Mr. Mori was transferred to Kawanaka Island. Keicho 4 year (1599), it belonged to [Kawajiri Hidenaga]. Keicho 5 year (1600), when the Battle of Sekigahara occurred, Kawajiri Hidenaga supported Ishida Mitsunari’s West Army, therefore, it was attacked by [Touyama Tomomasa] and Naegi Castle fell down.
After the East Army won the battle, Touyama Tomomasa became the castle owner of Naegi Castle at 10000 stones. After that, it was ruled by Mr. Touyama for generations. In addition, soil base, stones, and Honmaru trace are left.
