[Description ]
Yamagata Castle is located in Kajo Town, Yamagata City, Yamagata Province. It is also called [Ka Castle] [Kasumiga Castle]. The base of the castle was built during the period of [Mogami Yoshiaki], and when Torii Tadamasa was the clan master he built the rest part.
Enbun 1 year (1356), [Shiba Kaneyori] entered Yamagata as Ushutandai, and the castle was built in the beginning of 1357.
When entering Sengoku Era, [Mogami Yoshiaki] expanded the castle during Keicho period and prepared for the town under the castle. Yoshiaki was competent in all aspects, therefore, he aimed at uniting Ushu and continued fighting. As a result, Mr. Tendo, Mr. Yamagami, Mr. Sagae, Mr. Onotera and Mr. Daihoji were gradually destroyed and Ushu was united.
Yoshiaki received 570000 stones as the military award at the Battle of Sekigahara. However, after Yoshiaki died, conflicts happened between Mr. Mogami at his grandson [Yoshitoshi]’s generation. Therefore, [Torii Tadamasa] got promoted.
After Mr. Torii, clan master changed and renovation also taken place. After the mid Edo Era, it became difficult to maintain the castle. Nowadays, the castle wall is damaged, and Kajo Park is being built on Ninomaru Site.
