[Description]
Tanabe Castle is a flatland-mountain castle located in Tanabe Town, Koyu Town, Miyazaki Province. It is also called Takarabe Castle. It is said that the castle was built by Mr. Tsuchimochi during the end of Heian Period.
Mr. Tsuchimochi ruled this area until Muromachi Era, when entering Sengoku Era, it was attacked by Mr. Ito and became his follower. Choroku 1 year (1457), [Ito Suketaka] gathered army and attacked Tanabe Castle, Tsuchimochi Yoritsuna was defeated and the castle fell down. At that time, most of Yoritsuna’s terroties became Suketaka’s.
Genki 3 year (1572), Mr. Shimazu of Satsuma gradually expanded his influence and he attacked Hyuga Country. [Ito Yoshisuke] launched the battle to defend but he was defeated at [the Battle of Kizakibaru]. After that, Mr. Shimazu’s influence gradually decreased. Tensho 5 year (1577), finally he was defeated by Otomo Sorin.
[Kawakami Tadatomo] entered Tanabe Castle. Tensho 15 year (1587), when Mr. Shimazu was defeated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi at Kyushu Battle, [Akiduki Tanezane] moved to Tanabe Castle.
Keicho 9 year (1604), the next master [Akiduki Tananaga] renovated Tanabe Castle, and it was ruled by Mr. Akiduki until the end of Shogun. Nowadays, Maizuru Park is being built on the castle ruins, and stones, soil, moats still can be seen.
