Nagashima Castle
Wehre Oda Nobunaga suffered for many year at Nagashima Ikkoikki Battle
[Description]
Nagashima Castle is located in Nagashima Town, Kuwana City, Mie Province. It was built by Fujiwara Michiie at Gangen 3 year (1245).
Bunmei 14 year (1482), Ito Tadakiyo expanded the castle and Mr. Ito ruled the castle until Sengoku Era. Genki 1 year (1570), it became the base of Nagashima Ikkoikki Battle.
At the same year, [Kokie Castle] which was guarded by [Oda Nobuoki] was attacked and the castle was taken. Furthermore, [Takigawa Kazumasu] was defeated. After that, no matter how many times they launched and attacked they ended up with failure.
Tensho 2 year (1574), Nobunaga attacked Nagashima the third time and he gathered the soldiers from all his territories. It was said that the number of soldier was 70000 or 80000. Nobunaga’s main team and Oda Nobutada, Shibata Katsuie’s army attacked from the land, and [Kuki Yoshitaka]’s navy attacked Nagashima Castle from the sea.
Finally Nagashima Castle fell and most of the followers were killed. However, Mr. Oda’s damage was also great. People from Nobunaga’s family who died at the battle were [Oda Nobutsugu•Oda Nobunao•Oda Nobuhiro•Oda Nobunari•Oda Nobumasa•Oda Hidenari].
After the castle fell down, [Takigawa Kazumasu] became the castle owner and ruled the area. When Nobunaga died at Honno Temple Chaos, it became Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s era, and Nagashima Castle was ruled by [Oda Nobuo]. When entering Edo Period, [Mr. Suganuma] established Nagashima Clan at 20000 stones, and [Matsudaira Yasunao] of Hisamatsu Matsudaira family was appointed and after him [Mashiyama Masamitsu] also got promotion. It continued for 8 generations until the end of Shogun.
Current castle ruins belong to Central Nagashima Primary School and Nagashima High School. Stones, moats and study pavillon are left.
