The main castle of Idate Masamune before he moved to Sendai Castle.
[Description]
Iwade Mountain Castle is a mountain castle located in Ozaki City, Miyagi Province.
Before Idate Masamune entered the castle, it was the residence of Mr. Ujiie, the vassal of Mr. Ozaki.
Tensho 18 year (1590), when Toyotomi Yideyoshi finished [Odawara Battle], he performed [Oshu Shioki] and took back Daimyo’s territories. Because of that, Aizu and other places which belonged to Idate Masamune was occupied by Mr. Ashinashi. The territories belonged to Mr. Kasai, Mr. Ozaki were given to [Kimura Yoshikiyo•Yoshihisa].
However, soon Mr. Oza and Mr. Kasai’s former subordinates broke out and they chased Mr. Kimura. Instead, Idate Masamune appointed [Iwade Mountain Castle] as the main castle.
Originally the castle was called [Iwadesawa Castle] and it changed to Iwade Mountain Castle at that time. 12 years later, Masamune moved his main castle to Senda. After Masamune left, the castle was given to his fourth son [Muneyasu] and became the residence of Mr. Iwade until the end of Shogun•Meiji.
[Yubin Pavilion], one of the clan schools of Senda Clan, and bending wheels, soil, moats, stones, etc. are left on castle ruins. In addition, [Castle Mountain Garden] is built on a part of the area, and Miyagi Iwade Mountain High School and Ozaki Iwade Primary School also use this area.
The statue of Idate Masamune is built in the garden.
