Iwaya Castle (Awaji)
In the preliminary naval battle of the first Kidsugawaguchi, Iwaya Castle was the residence of Yasutaku Munekage, who belonged to Oda Nobunaga.

Iwaya Castle is a mountain castle located in Awaji City, Hyogo Province.
The history of Iwaya Castle is very old, and it is said that in the era of Genpei battle, the officer [Minamotono Sanetomo] had governed Matsuhonoura Bay.

When entering Sengoku Era, [Yasutaku Munekage] who was called the leader of Mr. Yasutaku family became the castle owner. When Oda Nobunaga went into the battle between Hongan Temple in Ishi Mountain and Toronuma, Iwaya Castle in Awaji became an important place for both sides. During [the first naval battle of Kidsugawaguchi], Munekage who belonged to Mr. Oda family was defeated by the attack of Mori and Saika party.

[Kodama Narihide] [Saikama Goichi] and others entered Iwaya Castle. Tensho 9 year (1581), [Kan Michiinaga], who guarded Iwaya Castle for Mori’s Side was attacked by Hashiba Hideyoshi in Awaji, Iwaya Castle fell down, and Hideyoshi’s vassal [Senishi Hidehisa] governed Awaji. Tensho 10 year (1582), when Oda Nobunaga was hit by the change of Honno Temple, [Kan michinaga] recaptured Iwaya Castle, but it was recaptured by Hashida army a few day later.

Tensho 11 year (1583), [Kanto Ujikatsu] was appointed as the castle owner of Iwaya Castle in Awaji at 3000 stones by Hideyoshi. After that, it seems that Kanto resigned. Bunroku 3 year (1594),
[Kato Yoshiaki] from [Shichi Castle] increased 1700 stones in Kanto under Iwaya Town, and it was placed under his control. It is predicted that Iwaya Castle has been abandoned at this time.
