[Introduction of Kutsukitani Castle (Kutsuki Jinya)]
Kutsukitani Castle is a flatland-mountain castle located in Kutsuki, Takashima City. Later it became Kutsuki Jinya.
Castle built year is unknown but Mr. Kutsuki used here as the base to work for [Muromachi Shogunate Hokoshu], and the owner of Sengoku Era [Kutsuki Mototsuna] also served Ashikaga Yoshiteru and Yoshiaki.
When Oda Nobunaga was performing Echizen’s attack in Asakura, he encountered a crisis due to the betray of Azai Nagamasa. At that time, Kutsuki helped Nobunaga to escape to Kyoto. After that, he served [Oda Nobunaga] and [Toyotomi Hideyoshi] and got 20 thousand stones.
Keicho 5 year (1600), in the battle of Sekigahara, for the first time the west army turned to the east led by Tokugawa Ieyasu. Afterwards, he could not bear the prize and the salary was reduced to 9500 stones. He lost the qualification of Daimyo. When entering to the Edo Era, [Tanetsuna], the youngest brother of Mototsuna was found by Tokugawa Iemitsu, and in Kanei 13 year (1636), he became Daimyo of 10000 stones.
Shoho 4 year (1684), Kanuma Castle was given to Shimotsuke Kanuma as residence and he established Kanumahan. The head family kept dominating Kutsuki until the end of Tokugawa Period. Nowadays, a part of stones and water moats are left in Kutsuki Jinya, and Kutsuki Memorial Hall is built.
