Kanbara Castle
where Hojo Tsunashige and Chojun died due to the attack by Takeda Katsuyori.

Kanbara Castle is a flatland-mountain castle located in Kanbara, Kanbara Town, Ihara Gun, Shizuoka Province.
The castle built year is unknown, but it is said that [Kiyozane], the third son of [Kiyosada] lived there and named it [Kanbara Castle] during Kamakura Period.
After that, it became the residence of Mr. Kanbara until Sengoku Period. Tenmon 5 year (1536), [Kanbara Ujinori] was given the castle from his father and became the castle owner. However, because it was an important place to defend Suruga, the castle owner was changed frequently. Tenmon 14 year (1545), [Ino Tsuratatsu] was the castle officer.
Eiroku 3 year (1560), when the Battle of Okehazama broke out between Imagawa Yoshimoto and Oda Nobunaga, the former castle owner [Kanbara Ujinori] died and his son [Norikane] inherited. However, it is considered that Mr. Kanbara lost the castle since that time.
[Ujizane] inherited Mr. Imagawa, but Mr. Imagawa gradually declined due to not paying attention to Iemasa. When it was the time, [Takeda Shingen] abandoned Suruga, Kai, Sagami alliance and attacked Imagawa’s territory.
[Hojo Ujiyasu] received the reinforcement request from Mr. Imagawa, he asked his younger brother [Hojo Nagatsuna]’s son [Hojo Tsunashige] and his brother [Hojo Chojun] to stay in the castle. They renovated the castle and prepared to fight with Takeda army.
Eiroku 12 year (1569), Shingen attacked Kanbara Castle the third time, [Takeda Katsuyori], [Takeda Nobutoyo] were the general officer, captured 1000 soldiers. After this battle, Mr. Takeda continued to advance to Suruga, and [Yamagata Masakage] was appointed as the castle officer of Ejiri Castle by Shingen, ruled Kanbara Gun area.
Kanbara Castle which was occupied by Mr. Takeda fell down by Oda Nobunaga in Tensho 10 year (1582). At that time, the castle officer did not hear Tokugawa army sneaked into the castle, he killed himself when the castle fell down.
The details afterwards are unknown, but it is said that the castle was abandoned in Tensho 18 year (1590) when Toyotomi Hideyoshi launched [the Battle of Odawara] and Tokugawa used strategy in Kanbara Castle. Nowadays, empty moats, small-scale stones, and the status of Hojo Shinzaburo are left on the current castle ruins.
