Oita Funai Castle
Otita Funai castle where Takenaka Hanbe’s cousin “Takenaka Shigetoshi” entered after the battle of Sekigahara.
[Explanation]
Oita funai castle is the castle which is in Oita city, Oita prefecture now. In the immediate vicinity there was Ootomo of the Bungo National Guardian. In the Sengoku Era, Shimazu invaded the whole Kyushu country by aiming to rule it, head of the family Otomo Sourin abandoned “Otomon mansion” and sieged in Usuki castle.
After that, when Shimazu surrendered in the conquest of Kyushu by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, “Fukuhara Naotaka” was newly entered at 120,000 Jewels in the prefecture, and a castle of Funai castle is built at the sea adjacent to Oita Bay. When Sekigahara’s battle broke out between the East Army led by “Tokugawa Ieyasu” and the West Army of “Ishida Mitsunari” during Keicho 5th year (1600), Kumishita Fukuhara whose rank got changed in the West Army, instead “Takenaka Shigetoshi (Takenaka Hanbei’s cousin) entered the castle with 35 thousand Jewels.
When Takenaka was the castle owner, Funai castle went through a major renovation. The castle was built from the sea side by a structure called Inner citadel, Outer citadel, inner mountain village, Outermost region of the castle, and each tower was connected by one bridge. In addition to the existing doctrine tower and hostage tower, the corner tower, southwestern corner tower and corridor bridge were rebuilt. Oita Funai castle has been selected as Japan’s 97th castle among 100 castle.
