Nakijin Castle

[Explanation]
Nakijin Castle is a castle ruined in Nakijin village in Okinawa Prefecture. Before the formation of the Ryukyu Kingdom based on Shuri Castle, the castle was presided over by the king of Kitayama “Kitayama king”. It was geographically located on the hill of about 100 m in the northern part of the main island of Okinawa. It is famous for the distinctive stone wall which is a hundred turns (100 turns), it can be said that it was a solid castle.
Kitayama king was destroyed by Nakayama King, and then Shou ruled the place. However, due to the invasion of the Ryukyu’s by the Satsuma clan in Keichou 14th year (1609), Shou of Shuri Castle also fell to the Shimazu army. Nakijin castle was also the place where the Satsuma clan rule, but the castle burned in siege and the function as a castle was lost.
After that it was mainly used as a place to manage the shrine. It was registered as World Cultural Heritage in Heisei 12th year (2000). In addition, Nakijin castle has been selected as the 98th out of 100th National Castle in Japan.
