[Castle name]
Hirado Castle
With the advice of Yamaga Sokou, Tsuiki Matsuura navy Matsuura Shingenobu’s sea castle, Hirado Castle.
[Explanation]
Hirado Castle is a castle in Hirado City, Nagasaki Prefecture now. It was built in the Edo period by Matsuura Nadakai as the Matsuura navy Force in this district and was said to be a castle facing the sea. Tensho 14th year (1586), served in Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s conquest of Kyushu (conquest of Shimazu), and was relieved of the positions of Iki and Matsuura Army.
After that, he also served in “role in Bunroku Era, Keicho Era” and raised warfare. The present Hirado Castle, in the Genroku 16th year (1703), the 4th lordship “Matsuura Shigenobu” got permission from the shogunate to build the castle, the heir “Takashi” started building the castle. Construction was carried out with the advice of “Yamaga Sokou” who was a high-profile military scholar at that time. Inner Citadel, Outer Citadel was placed at the summit of the mountain, and at the coast there was a dockyard like the Matsuura Navy.
Because of consideration to the shogunate, castle tower was not built, and a Northwest watchtower of 3rd floor built in Outer citadel was substituted for castle tower. Hirado Castle became an abandoned castle due to the abolished clan area in Meiji 4th year (1871). Mock castle tower of Mie 5th floor is currently being built, and it is selected as No. 106th castle tower of Japan No. 100.
