[Explanation]
Tsukiyama Toda is a castle of Amagoshi who boasted power, mainly in the San-in region. Currently Shimane prefecture Yasugi city Hirose Town. It is a castle located in Toda, there was inner citadel near the top of Tsukiyama peak. Amagoshi in the Sengoku Era strengthened its foundation in the era of “Amago Tsunehisa” and has transformed himself into a great daimyo for the eldest son “Amago Haruhisa”.
It became a protector of the eight countries that extends to Sanin and Sanyo, and its prosperity appeared to continue afterwards. However, the 3rd Year of Eiroku (1560), Haruhisa Amago suddenly died, and attacks by Mori Motonari’s attack of Aki district mountain castle, which Yoshihisa has rapidly taken over as a successor, began.
Amagoshi did a battle for the castle for a long time but at last the castle owner “Yoshihisa” surrendered to the castle and became the place where Mori Motonari started governing. After that, the war between Mori clan and the Oda family occurred and the Oda family received “Katsuhisa Amago” “Yamanaka Shikanosuke” and others to attack the Tsukiyama Toda castle for the revival of the Amago family, but Mori repulsed the attack.
In Tensho 10th (1582), When the Oda Nobunaga was struck by the vassal “Akechi Mitsuhide” as a result of Honnoji incident, “Hashiba Hideyoshi” who was in a battle situation with Mouri as a Chugoku region of Western Honshu General gave up early and formed reconciliation. This raised the Akechi punitive force.
Both armies fought in Yamasaki in Kyoto Prefecture now, and in fact Hideyoshi Hashiba won and became a Shogun. Hashiba Hideyoshi changed the name to “Toyotomi Hideyoshi” and became a part of the chief advisor to the Emporer, the Toyotomi administration started, but along with the death of Hideyoshi “Tokugawa Ieyasu” emerged and was trying to establish a new administration. When Keicho 5th year (1600 years) comes, Toyotomi’s Ishida Mitsunari (Western Army) and Tokugawa Ieyasu (the eastern Army) had decisive battle, “Battle of Sekigahara” broke out.
Ieyasu, who overcame this, got conferral of honors, and Yoshiharu Horio, who was a retainer of Toyotomi family, bestowed Izumo and Oki 235 thousand Jewels. During this era of Horio, Tsukiyama Toda Castle was transformed into a modern castle with a major refurbishment. However, when Horio Tadaharu succeeded the trace, he built a new “Matsue Castle”, and because of this, Tsukiyama Toda castle became abandoned.
Tsukiyama Toda Castle has Inner Citadel, Outer Citadel, Outermost region of the castle near the summit of Tsukiyama, and a unique stone wall called a Danchiku was built. Also, a deep scion was made between Inner citadel and Outer citadel. The current Tsukiyama Toda Castle is a nationally designated historic site and has been selected as the 65th number out of 100th National Castle.
