[Castle name]
Tamonyama Castle
Built by Hisahide Matsunaga, known for its unique defense tower
[Description]
Tamonyama Castle a flat mountain castle, located in Horen-cho, Nara. It was built by Hisahide Matsunaga, one of Nagayoshi Miyoshi’s minister.
Hisahide used Tamonyama Castle as a base in Yamato and fought around the area whenever he received orders from Nobunaga. Hisahide was known for building castles; his futuristic ideas included tamon-yagura. When he revolted against Nobunaga, he was forgiven by giving up Tamonyama Castle to Nobunaga.
Yoshimitsu Akechi and Katsuie Shibata took over Tamonyama Castle and when rumor started spreading around that Shingen Takeda was heading for Kyoto, Hisahide removed himself from battle and barricaded himself in Shigisan Castle.
In the end, Shingen Takeda was killed in battle and without any reinforcements. Hisahide was killed as well from Nobunaga force. Ironically, Hisahide’s successor was Jynkei Tsutsui, his arch enemy.
Junkei destroyed Tamonyama Castle and used the remnants to expand his own castle, Tsutsui Castle. There aren’t much left of Tamonyama Castle today.
