[Castle name]
Ishigakiyama Castle (Ishigakiyama One Night Castle)
It was built in Hojo Conquest by Toyotomi Hideyoshi
[Description]
Ishigakiyama Castle used to stand in a mountain in current Hayakawa, Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
In the 18th year of the Tensho period (1580), in the Hojo Conquest, Toyotomi Hideyoshi secretly built the castle. Then he removed trees around it at once. It looked like that the castle was built in one night. It surprised the Hojo family in Odawara Castle.
Hideyoshi sieged Odawara Castle. He held tea parties, watched dancing, and invited his concubine ChaCha.
It was the first modern castle which had a stone wall and a turret.
Although there is a base of the main keep in the ruin now, we don’t know whether the main keep really existed.
In addition, we think that Kuroda Kanbe drew the blueprint of the castle.
After the Hojo family in Odawara Castle surrendered, it was abandoned.
Now, the ruin is used as Ishigakiyama One Night Castle Park.
