Oda Castle was a castle on the plain in current Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is assigned to national ruin.
From the Kamakura period to the Warring States period, the Oda family lived in it. It was built in the first year of the Bunji period (A.D.1185) when Hatta Tomoie was appointed to the governor of Hitachi.
In the Warring States period, the head of the castle Oda Ujiharu repeatedly fought with the Makabe family, the Satake family, the Tagaya family, and Uesugi Kenshin. Later on, Ujiharu joined the Hojo family. In the 1st year of the Tensho period (A.D.1573), he was defeated in the battle of Tehaizaka and Oda Castle was usurped by Satake Yoshishige.
Then, Ujiharu escaped to Tsuchiura Castle, where his retainer the Sugaya family lived.
After that, Ota Sukemasa got in charge of Oda Castle. later, his son Kajiwara Masakage succeeded it Afterward, Oba Yoshimune from the Satake family became the head of the castle. In the 5th year of the Keicho period (A.D.1600), Satake Yoshinobu didn’ clarify his position in the Battle of Sekigahara, so Ieyasu didn’t like him. In the 7th year of the Keicho period (A.D.1602), the Satake family was forced to move to Akita (Kubota Castle)..
Oda Castle was destroyed at that time.
