Najima Castle is a water castle located in Najima, East District, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Province. It was built when it was used as the sub-castle of Tachinagayama Castle by [Tachibana Akitoshi].
Tensho 15 year (1587), Mr. Shimazu surrendered and Kyushu was settled, [Toyotomi Hideyoshi] gave Chikuzen to [Kobayakawa Takakage]. Takakage selected the castle location, and used it as the sub-castle of Tachinagayama Castle.
In addition, Najima Castle was greatly renovated as well as the Joka Town. After that, Hideyoshi’s nephew was adopted by Mr. Kobayakawa. Takakage gave the power to the adopted son [Kobayakawa Hideaki] and he moved to [Mihara Castle].
Keicho 5 year (1600), Tokugawa Ieyasu went back to sleep at Najima Castle during the Battle of Sekigahara. Hideaki was given 510000 stones to Okayama Castle. And [Kuroda Nagamasa] was the castle owner.
Nagamasa abandoned Najima Castle, and built a new castle in Fukuzaki. [Fukuoka Castle] was completed by using the materials of Najima Castle. It is a residential area on the current Najima Castle ruins. Moats, soil, Tenshu Platform and Najima Shrine are built.
