Tahara Castle
The famous castle of Toda Yasumitsu who sent Matsudaira Takechiyo (Tokugawa Ieyasu) to Oda Nobunaga’s place.
[Description ]
Tahara Castle is a castle built on the small hill located in Ha River, Tahara Town, Tahara City, Aichi Province. Bunmei 12 year (1480), Toda Yasumitsu built the castle and it was used as a base of Mikawa Lake.
When entering Sengoku Era, the area nearby belonged to Mr. Matsudaira, after that Mr. Imagawa served. Tenmon 16 year (1547), when [Toda Yasumitsu] was the castle owner, he gave [Matsudaira Hirotada]’s son [Takechiyo (Tokugawa Ieyasu)] to Oda Nobunaga.
Imagawa Yoshimoto] got angry becasue of that. As a result, Yoshimoto’s army attacked Tahara Castle and the castle fell down. Eiroku 3 year (1560), when Yoshimoto was attacked by Oda Nobunaga at the Battle of Okehazama, Matsudaira Motoyasu became the independent daimyo and attacked Tahara Castle and others.
Motoyasu (Ieyasu) odered [Honda Hidetaka] entered Tahara Castle, and it was ruled by [Sakai Tadatsugu] who served at Yoshida Castle. Tensho 18 year (1590), when Ieyasu transferred to Kanto, Tahara Castle became the sub-castle of [Ikeda Terumasa]. [Igi Tadatsugu] became the castle owner.
It is considered that the renovation of stones and bending wheels were done during the period ruled by Tadatsugu. When the Battle of Sekigahara and Osaka Jin were finished and Tokugawa united the country, [Toda Taketsugu] received 10000 stones. Kanmon 4 year (1664), Mr. Miyake received 12000 stones and he ruled this area for 200 year until the end of Shogun.
Apart from [Fukugen Sakura Gate] and [Fukugen Ninomaru Yagura], a part of the town under the castle still left on Tahara Castle ruins.
