Shingu castle is a Hirayama castle in Shingu City, Wakayama Prefecture.
The castle Shingu where “Asano Tadayoshi” was built in its present position and Horiuchi Shingu (Horiuchi Yashiki) which was dominated by the “Ujiyoshi Horiuchi” which dominated this land as Sengoku Daimyo.
The current Shingu castle ruins were founded in a place different from Horiuchi Shingu, which was built by “Asano Tadayoshi”, a deputy of “Asano Nagamasa” who went to Kishu, and was constructed by transferring several temples. The castle construction was started in Kei 7 (1602).
Entering the Edo era “It is the nation’s first castle decree” once it will be abandoned, but Ganwa 4th year (1618), Once the castle was again recognized, “Asano Tadayoshi” started rebuilding. However, Asano will enter the Kishu Tokugawa family (Tokugawa Yoshinobu) which will become the Tokugawa ogonomiya in the Kishu Wakayama clan after the transfer to the Hiroshima clan is decided before the castle is completed in the 5th year of Yuwa (1619).
It was “Mizuno Shigakka (Shigenaka)” appointed as a good aid, and then became a castle ruled by Mr. Mizuno for generations throughout the Edo period. Mizuno succeeded Asano ‘s castle and extended the moat and the stone base, while the modern castle was completed in Hirofumi 7th year (1667).
After the Meiji Restoration of the Edo Period, it was surviving as Shingu prefecture, but due to the merger with Wakayama Prefecture and the abolition castle decree of Meiji 6, Shingu is abandoned. Currently there are remains of the remains of Stonewall ruins, Rikujiri ruins, Kanemon gate and others.
