The residence of Oyamada Nobushige who betrayed the master when attacking Takeda Katsuyori.
Iwadono Mountain Castle is a mountain castle located in Outsuki City, Yamanashi Province. It is known as the base of Mr. Oyamada, and it was a strong castle in Sengoku Era.
When Takeda Shingen became the guardian Daimyo of Kai, he won lots of military awards. At that time, the master of Mr. Oyamada [Nobushige] was the brother of Shingen.
He joined a few battles such as the attack of Hojo of Kanto and Imagawa of Suruga. At the battle of Nirayama Castle, he and Takeda Katsuyori surrounded the castle.
After Shingen died, he supported Katsuyori and became the important vassal of Mr. Takeda.
When [the Battle of Nagashino] occurred between Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu, he bravely attacked even facing their gunfire.
In March Tensho 10 year (1582), when Oda Tokugawa’s joint army attacked Takeda, Mr. Takeda’s vassals gradually surrendered. Katsuyori built a new castle and escaped to Sinpu Castle.
At that time, when he escaped to Oyamada Nobushige’s Iwadono Mountain Castle, Nobushige betrayed Mr. Takeda and followed Oda Nobunaga.
For that reason, while rest of the 50 soldiers were fighting at Tenmoku Mountain, Katsuyori and his son [Nobukatsu] committed suicide and killed themselves.
On the other hand, Nobushige who surrendered to Nobunaga’s army was punished as being unfaithful to Mr. Takada. He was killed at Kai Zenko Temple. Therefore, Mr. Odayama was destroyed.
Iwadono Mountain Castle has been repaired these years, some remainings still can be seen.
