After that, it was the residence of Mr. Matsudaira for 4 generations. Daiei 4 year (1524), the 4th master [Matsudaira Kiyoyasu] achieved [Okazaki Castle], and he moved his base to Okazaki. However, Anjo Castle was still the important base of Mr. Matsudaira.
Tenmon 9 year (1540), when Mr. Matsudaira decreased, [Oda Nobuhide] attacked Anjo Castle and it fell down, [Oda Nobuhiro] was appointed as the castle officer. Tenmon 14 year (1545), Matsudaira Hirotada aimed to conquer Anjo Castle, and Mr. Oda was greatly defeated.
After that Hirotada felt difficulty in bearing the pressure from Mr. Oda, he asked help from [Imagawa Yoshimoto], the guardian of Suruga•Totomi. However, they asked him to give the price of giving out [Takechiyo (Tokugawa Ieyasu)] as the hostage. But when Takechiyo was being transferred, he betrayed Mr. Toda, and Takechiyo was sent back to Mr. Oda.
In March Tenmon 8 year (1549), Imagawa Yoshimoto was attacked by the 20000 army led by [Taigen Sessai], and successfully captured [Oda Nobuhiro].
Yoshimoto swapped [Takechiyo] with [Nobuhiro], the other son of Nobuhide, and Nobuhide accepted.
Mr. Imagawa appointed Takechiyo as the castle officer of Okazaki Castle and Anjo Castle, and it was actually ruled by Mr. Matsudaira. However in June Eiroku 3 year (1560), Imagawa Yoshimoto was attacked by Oda Nobunaga at the Battle of Okehazama, and Matsudaira Motoyasu (Takechiyo) was independent from Mr. Imagawa, and he signed the alliance with Oda Nobunaga.
Because of this alliance, Anjo Castle’s value became less and less. Eiroku 5 year (1562) the castle was abandoned. [Anjo City Historical Museum] [Anjo Citizen Gallery] are built on the current ruins.
