[Descripiton]
Futamata Castle is a mountain castle located in Futamata, Futamata Town, Tenryo District, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Province. It is well known as the place where Takeda Shingen and Tokugawa Ieyasu fought with each other fiercely, and it is in an important place between Futamata Lake and Tenryu Lake.
When Imagawa Yoshimoto expanded his influence to Suru River, Toutomi River and Mi River during Sengoku Era, Futamata Castle belonged to Mr. Imagawa and [Matsui Munenobu] was appointed as castle owner. However, Eiroku 3 year (1560), the master Yoshimoro and Munenobu died at [the Battle of Okehazama].
His son [Matsui Munetsune] took over Futamata Castle, and gave [Imagawa Ujizane] 3000 strings of money. Eiroku 12 year (1569), Imagawa Ujizane was destroyed by Takeda Shingen of Kai and Tokugawa Ieyasu of Mi River. At that time, Munetsune belonged to Shingen.
After that, Tokugawa Ieyasu attacked [Futamata Catle] several times, and finally defeated Munetsune. Futamata Castle was led by [Udono Ujinaga]. Soon, as Mr. Kakeda’s thread increased, the castle was given to his vassal [Nakane Masateru].
Genki 3 year (1572), Takeda Shingen led army invaded from Shinano toToutomi River, Takeda Katsuyori as the senior general attacked Futamata Castle, Nakane Masateru and his soldier desperately defended. Without getting reinforcements from Ieyasu, they finally retreated Takeda Shingen to Hamamatsu Castle.
Shingen got Futamata Castle and [Yoda Nobushige] ruled this area as the castle owner. After Shingen died, something changed. In Tensho 3 year (1575), the joint army of Oda and Tokugawa defeated Takeda Katsuyori in the battle of Nagashi, and Ieyasu started attacking back.
They boldly attacked Futamata Castle and Yoda Nobushige escaped to Tanaka Castle in Suru River. Ieyasu considered the importance of the castle and appointed his most trustworthy subordinate [Oukubo Tadayo] as the castle owner and he also ordered to renovate and extend the castle. When Oda Nobunaga was hit in [Honno Temple Chaos], Ieyasu’s terroitory Shinano and Kai were under control. Therefore, [Oukubo Tadayo] was sent to Komoro Castle in Shinano.
Tensho 18 year (1590) , when Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s Hojyo Battle was finished, Ieyasu moved to Kanto, instead [Horio Yoshiharu] entered Hamatsu Castle, and Futamata Castle became the sub-castle. Keicho 5 year (1600), in the end of Sekigahara Battle, Mr. Horio moved to Izumo and Futamata Castle became abandoned.
Nowadays, Tenshu platform remaining, Recovery Tenshu, stone, and soil base are left on the castle ruins.
