Sakura Castle
Its construction was completed by Doi Toshikatsu under Ieyasu’s order.

[Description]
Sakura Castle used to stand in Jonai Town, Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture.
Its construction started in the early Warring States period. It was conducted by Kashima Chikamiki under Chiba Chikatane’s order.

However, it stopped because Chikatane was assassinated. In the 15th year of the Keicho period (1610), Ieyasu ordered Doi Toshikatsu to complete the construction.

In the early Edo period, the head of the castle changed again and again. Finally, Hotta Masasuke got in charge of it with 110000 kokus estate. The Hotta family’s reign lasted until the end of the Edo period. In the Meiji period, Sakura Castle was destroyed because of the government policy.

Now, the ruin is used as Sakura Castle Ruin Park and it is one of Japan’s 100 Best Castles.
