After the Iwaki family was deprived of its estate and status, Tori Tadamasa became the head. At the end of the Edo period, the Ando family soundly resist the new government army, but finally was defeated.

Iwaki Taira Castle used to stand on a plain in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture.
In the 5th year of the Keicho period (A.D.1600), after the Battle of Sekigahara, Iwaki Sadataka, who was the third son of Satake Yoshishige and the head of Ino Taira Castle in Iwaki Daira, Iwaki District, Mutsu Province, was deprived of his estate. That was because he hadn’t attended the army to conquer the Uesugi family. His older brother had ordered him not to.

Before , the Ishikawa family had 120000 kokus estate. (Later they were forgiven and got 10000 kokus estate in Kawanaka Jima.) Then, Tori Tadamasa, a senior statesman of the Tokugawa family, became the head of Ino Taira. He built Iwaki Taira Castle and moved to it.

In the 8th year of the Gen’na period (A.D.1622), the Torifamily was moved to Yamagata Castle in Dewa Province. Alternatively, the Naito family and the Inoue family ruled this area. Both of the family were in the hereditary vassal to the Tokugawa family. It may be a restraint on the Date family in Sendai.

After that, the Inoue family was moved to somewhere and the Ando family became the head with 67000 kokus estate. The family ruled the domain until the Meiji Restoration. In addition, the 5th head Ando Nobumasa worked as a Roju in the shogunate. He was attacked by lordless samurais in the Sakuradamongai Incident and got injured.

This was thought to show that he was not a strong samurai. The shogunate reduced the estate of Taira Domain to 40000 kokus. In the Boshin War, he joined the Oetsu-reppan alliance and fought against the new government.

The new government sent its army to Iwaki Taira Castle. Nobumasa was defeated and escaped with his men. The castle was broken down on fire. Now, the ruin is used as Tangozawa Park.
